Physician Payments Sunshine Act (Open Payments)

DPC physicians do not need to be too concerned with this regulation that was enacted as part of section 6002 of the Affordable Care Act.  Unlike most regulations discussed on our website, the Sunshine Act does not require any reporting on the part of the physician.  It requires companies to track and make public their payments to physicians with only a few very narrow exceptions - one is that resident physicians are excluded (no payments to residents need to be reported).  There are no fines or fees to worry about, but the payments made to the physician will be made public on the CMS Open Payments page.  Feel free to look yourself up!
